How to Add Extra Domains from Third Party Registrar to Bluehost
In the first scenario, suppose you have already purchased a domain name elsewhere other than Bluehost (You can buy domains from Bluehost and host it with Bluehost or register domain elsewhere while host in with Bluehost).
When you first open a hosting account with Bluehost, you have the chance to add your primary domain to Bluehost. You can either choose to register the domain with Bluehost or add it from a third party registrar. Extra domains to be hosted with Bluehost can be added as addon domains.
The very first thing you need to do is to point your domain Name server to Bluehost name server. We have an earlier guide about this issue, see how to point DNS from Godaddy to Bluehost here. The process will be almost the same for any domain registrar. If you do not want to configure the DNS name servers by yourself, you can also contact your domain registrar for help. It is very easy to do and takes just couple of minutes without any learning curve or technical background.
Once you have changed the name servers for your domain name to Bluehost, you can add the domain as a new add-on domain to their hosting control panel following below steps.
Step 1. Login to your Bluehost hosting panel
Step 2. Click on Domains at the top, then click on Assign
You will then see the clear workflow to add an addon domain to your Bluehost hosting account. You can also navigate to the cPanel, scroll down to the Domains management section from the home screen of the cPanel. There will be an Assign Domains option.
Step 3. Type your domain name in the Enter Domain section.
Enter your domain name without the “www” prefix.
Step 4. Verify ownership
Bluehost will automatically verify the ownership of your domain name before it can be added to their hosting servers. When you finish typing your domain name, Bluehost will check Name server of the domain name automatically. If your domain name is still not pointing to Bluehost Name Server, you will be given alternate ways to verify ownership of the domain to be added to Bluehost account.
If you have trouble verifying your ownership of the new domain to be added, you can refer to this guide for more help: Steps to Add Additional Domains to Bluehost Hosting Account.
Step 5. Choose addon domain option
Now you can choose to host your new domain as addon domain or parked domain with Bluehost. If you want your additional domain to point to primary domain/website of your Bluehost account, choose parked domain feature. Since we are going to host multiple website on Bluehost web server, we need to choose the add-on domain feature.
Step 6. Set a directory for the new domain name
You can choose an existing directory or create a new directory on the server for the new domain where your new website pages and files will be stored. If you plan to use an existing directory or folder for this extra domain, make sure this folder was created before specifically for the new domain or website.
Step 7. Finalize adding additional domain to your Bluehost account.
Click Assign this domain button to confirm and add new domain to Bluehost control panel. You can repeat above steps to add unlimited domains to Bluehost, and host multiple websites on one hosting account.
