There are various ways you can setup Hotmail on iPad. In an earlier guide, we described how to add Hotmail to iPad using Outlook.com option. In this tutorial, we will show you another method you can configure Hotmail account on iPad: setting up Hotmail as Exchange.
Setup Hotmail as Exchange on iPad
From the home screen of iPad, tap to open Settings app. Scroll down to find the Mail, Contacts, Calendars from the navigation menu on the left, see below screenshoot.
Tap on Mail, Contacts, Calendars from above menu, you will open the Mail, Contacts, Calendars settings page on the right. Your existing email accounts will be listed under the Accounts section.
Tap on Add Account item below your email account list on iPad, you will be redirected to a screen like below.
Now you have the chance to choose from available email types, like iCloud, Microsoft Exchange, Gmail, Yahoo mail, AOL mail, Outlook.com emails. In this case, tap to select Exchange mail server from the above list.
In the Exchange server setting page, you are required to input your email address, password and description of this email account. Make sure to type in the full email address including the ‘@hotmail.com’ part. Password is the one you use to log on your Hotmail account. Tap on Next button on the top right corner to continue with below steps.
Now you have the options to sync emails, contacts, calendars and reminders from Hotmail account to iPad. The Contacts option is disabled. If you like to transfer contacts from hotmail to iPad as well, you can turn it on from here. To activate the Contacts option, you will get a popup dialogue like this:
You need to make a decision to keep your existing local contacts on iPad or delete local contacts from your iPad. Under most circumstances, we would like to keep our existing iPad contacts intact [See how to recover deleted or lost data for iPhone iPad?]. So tap on to select the ‘Keep on My iPad’ option. After that tap on the Save button on the top right corner of your iPad screen, your Hotmail account will be installed as Exchange server on iPad.
