Install WordPress on a subdomain in Spanel

If you have a forum, blog, store want to attach to your main site, you can create a subdomain for it without registering for a new domain name. In this quick guide, we will describe how to easily create a website on a subdomain using WordPress Manager in Spanel.

Basically you will have to create a subdomain in Spanel first, then launch the WordPress Manager in Spanel to quickly setup a new site on the subdomain. Check out details below.

Creating a subdomain in Spanel

Login Spanel. In the Domains section of the Spanel home screen, click Subdomains.

Once the Subdomains page opens. Type the name of the subdomain, the prefix of the top level domain, in the Subdomain text box under the Create a Subdomain section. You will see Spanel automatically fills in the document root path by using the subdomain name that you provide. If your subdomain is sub.betterhostreview.com, Spanel will create a subfolder named ‘sub.betterhostreview.com’ under your Spanel home or root directory. You can leave it blank to point the subdomain to your account’s home directory, or manually enter a new folder name as the root folder for the subdomain. You should upload all your site files associated with the subdomain to this path.

Click Create Subdomain button to create the subdomain and the new folder for the subdomain.

Install WordPress on Subdomain

Generally speaking, you need to download WordPress installer from its official site to your computer, upload the installer to your server, create a database on your server for the WordPress site, edit the connection string, and then launch the installation from the web. The WordPress manager in sPanel has greatly simplified the process. It makes the life of WordPress users much easier. Now follow these steps to install WordPress on the subdomain using the WordPress Manager in Spanel.

Scroll all the way down to the bottom, you will find the Tools section. Click to open WordPress Manager in a new page.

In the Domain list box, choose the subdomain you have just created above. Leave the Path text box blank so you can visit the new site using the subdomain without attaching a subfolder name to it. If you enter a new folder name in the Path, the WordPress will be installed to this subfolder. After that you need to pull up the new site using the full URL address like sub.domain.com/foldername/.

In the Username text box, type the administrator username which you use to login WordPress dashboard to design your site and publish site content.

Type the same password for administrator account in both the Password and Repeat Password boxes. Or you can click Generate button to let Spanel create a strong password for you automatically.

In the Email Address text box, type the site administrator’s email address. Make sure to use a valid email. You can use it to receive site notifications, reset username/password if you forgot them, etc.

Finally click Install WordPress button to create the WordPress on the selected subdomain name.

Then go to visit the subdomain you created using a web browser. You should see the WordPress home page now. Go to login WordPress dashboard to start designing your site and publishing new pages and posts.
