Here we will recommend a browsers plugin, Adblock Plus, to filter out the annoying ads on your mobile devices. Other than the mobile ads blocker add-ons or plugins for mobile browsers, some web browsers or mobile phones may already has the ads blocking feature built-in.

Adblock Plus to block ads on mobile

Adblock Plus for Android, Firefox, Chrome, Opera is the world’s most popular browser extension and mobile ads blocker used to blocks annoying ads on the web. It can block other things, like tracking, as well. Adblock Plus is an open source project created by Wladimir Palant in 2006. Adblock Plus itself has no functionality, in the sense that it does not block anything until it is “told” what to do by its filter lists. These filter lists are essentially an extensive set of rules, which tell Adblock Plus which elements of websites to block. The rules can be found/edited at /data/data/org.adblockplus.android/files/patterns.ini

Add Adblock Plus to Firefox

The easiest way to add the mobile ads blocker to Firefox is to simply go to this Firefox installation page and click on the install button. A small screen will open on the left side of your browser, please click on “Allow”. Then, another small screen will appear, where you have to click on “Install now”. This will add Adblock Plus to your browser, and you will be protected against all obtrusive ads.

You can also install Adblock Plus mobile ads blocker through Mozilla Firefox, just as you install any other Firefox plugins. Go to the Mozilla Add-ons section, search for Adblock Plus, click on the big green button “Add to Firefox” to install Adblock Plus. Then, Firefox will ask you to “Install add-ons only from authors whom you trust.” please confirm this by clicking on “Install”. After confirming this, all annoying ads will be blocked. A default filterlist will be installed the first time you install Adblock Plus, you can add new rules later.

Adblock Plus is almost the standard ads filtering plugin for firefox (both desktop and mobile device). Custom rules can be edited in Root. File location: /data/data/org.mozilla.firefox/files/mozilla/xxxxxxx.dafault/adblockplus/patterns.ini

Add Adblock Plus to Chrome

There are two ways how you can add Adblock Plus mobile ads blocker to your Chrome browser. First, you can add ad blocker for Chrome by going to this Chrome installation page and clicking on the green install button to install Chrome’s Adblock Plus.

Another way you can add Adblock Plus to your Chrome browser is to add Adblock Plus through the Google Chrome Webstore.

Add Adblock Plus to Opera Mobile

The easiest way to add the mobile ads blocker to Opera Mobile is to go to this Opera Add-ons page and click on “Add to Opera”. A small pop-up will ask you to add Adblock Plus to your Opera browser. Click on “Install” to protect yourself against all online ads.

Just like, Opera for desktop, the ads filtering for Opera Mobile can be set up through both urlfilter.ini and custom.css. However, the filter setting via the CSS is global setting other than domain specific settings.

If you do not bother to update your filtering rules list, you can search and subscribe to online filter lists.

How to block ads on Android?

If you want to block all ads from your Android device, you can download the application “Adblock Plus” to your Android device from https://adblockplus.org/en/android-install. Before you download it, you should make sure your device allows app installation from unknown sources. If you do not have a rooted device, you will probably need to configure the proxy manually. After that, you will be protected against ads.
