You may see this notice when logging into your Google Analytics account:
Universal Analytics will no longer process new data in standard properties beginning July 1, 2023. Prepare now by setting up and switching over to a Google Analytics 4 property.
If you have upgraded to the new Google Analytics 4 and want to get rid of the classic Universal Analytics, you can go to delete a Universal Analytics property from Google analytics account >> admin >> property >> property settings. On this Property Settings page, click on the Move to Trash Can button on top right, then click Move to Trash button on the Move Property to Trash Can page.
If the Universal Analytics property is linked or associated with the new Google Analytics 4 property, you won’t be able to delete the Universal Analytics property.
This property is part of a link between a Universal Analytics property and a Google Analytics 4 property and can’t be deleted.
In such case, you can follow these steps to unlink a Universal Analytics property from a Google Analytics 4 property.
Important tips:
If you implemented the Google Analytics 4 on your site with Site Kit. Note you can use the new Google Analytics 4 along with Universal Analytics. Beginning with version 1.36, released on July 7, 2021, Site Kit added the ability for new users to create and add a GA4 property directly through the Site Kit interface. At this time, GA4 statistics are not reported within Site Kit’s dashboards. GA4 statistics can be viewed in your Analytics account. The addition of GA4 data to Site Kit’s dashboards and reporting is in Site Kit’s roadmap. For now, you will have to keep both the new Google Analytics 4 along with Universal Analytics for some time.
Navigate to admin >> property. In this Property column, select the classic Universal Analytics property you want to remove. You will then find the GA4 Setup Assistant option beneath. Click on it to open the Google Analytics 4 Property Setup Assistant page.

Here you can find that you have connected your GA4 property and the class UA property. There will be a Connected Property section where you can disconnect your properties at any time by clicking the Disconnect button.
After that you will get a warning or confirmation dialog.
Are you sure you want to disconnect your properties?
By disconnecting your properties:
You’ll need to manually update your Google Analytics 4 property configurations.
You may need to remove a connected site tag if you want to stop sending site data to the connected Google Analytics 4 property.
To take advantage of future Google Analytics 4 upgrade tools, you’ll need to reconnect.
If you have made up your mind to get rid of the old classic Google analytics, click Continue button to complete.
What if my “Disconnect” button there is still grayed out? I’ve looked all over, in connected tags in both UA and the GA4 profile, and I am stuck. Everything related to “connected tags” and “connected properties” is grayed out even though I have admin privileges.
